Prima Corrente – I figli della scimmia

About the event

In I figli della scimmia, Dario (Riccardo Scamarcio) devotes his life to caring for his son Enrico, who has severe tetraplegia. He copes with tenderness, but hides the psychological strain of acceptance and the weight of social taboos around severe disability. The family's balance wavers when Dario forms a deep, ambiguous bond with his teenage nephew Giacomo, a healthy boy in whom he unconsciously sees an "ideal son".

The film is part of Prima Corrente, a festival promoted by the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo with the Comune di Bellano and the Cinema di Bellano, dedicated to directors and their debut features. From October 2026 to March 2027, under artistic director Gian Luca Pisacane, it shows six Italian first films at the Cinema di Bellano, one a month, with each director present to talk with the audience and meet local students.

At the end of the series, the audience votes for the Premio Prima Corrente.
