Phoenix

About the event

This evening is part of a series of nine events: three sessions of discussion and analysis and six screening evenings, devoted to a selection of films and short films from national and international cinema. The series is curated by Francesco Cassata, Francesco Simoneschi and Federico Orsini.

On Wednesday 28 October 2026 the film is Phoenix – Il segreto del suo volto, directed by Christian Petzold. Nelly has survived the extermination camps but is so disfigured that she needs an operation to recall her own appearance. No longer expected by anyone and stripped of her identity, she wanders through what is left of Berlin. Her husband Johnny, who may have sold her to the SS, does not recognise her but is mysteriously drawn to her. A dangerous pas de deux begins, in which gestural memory comes to coincide with historical memory.
