Tivano & Breva
Lake Como has two local winds. The Tivano blows from the north, through the night and into the morning. Later in the day it gives way to the Breva, which blows up the lake from the south in the afternoon. Both are thermal winds, most regular on clear, settled days.
The upper lake, the Alto Lago between Dongo, Domaso, Gera Lario, Colico and Dervio, is where they are put to use: its beaches and clubs are the lake’s base for windsurfing, kiting and sailing. The narrow southern arms towards Como and Lecco get less of both.
