Prima Corrente – La Calle Pura

About the event

La Calle Pura is shown as part of Prima Corrente at the Cinema di Bellano. The film is set in present-day Cuba, which is going through its most serious economic and migration crisis in decades. The 23-year-old Afro-Cuban Brian is trying to work out what kind of man to become, and he looks to two opposite models: his father Toro and his twin uncle Mio, identical in appearance but different in their view of life, family and spirituality.

The family moves along the thin line between legality and the black market to get basic goods, and proudly chooses to stay on the island while the country empties through mass emigration. Brian dreams of becoming a reggaeton singer. Half documentary, half reggaeton drama, the film is an intimate, authentic and raw portrait of those who choose to stay.

Prima Corrente is a film festival for directors and their debut features. From October 2026 to March 2027 it brings six first films to the Cinema di Bellano, one a month, with the directors present to talk with the audience.
