Prima Corrente – The Madmen Coach

About the event

The Madmen Coach is an award-winning documentary directed by Carlo Liberatore. It tells the story of the first Senegalese national futsal team made up entirely of people with mental health conditions, a project inspired by the Italian experience of Crazy for Football. Filmed in Italy and Dakar, the film deals with sport, inclusion and social redemption, and with overcoming the stigma around mental health.

The screening is part of Prima Corrente, a film festival dedicated to directors and their debut feature films. From October 2026 to March 2027 it brings six Italian debut films to Cinema di Bellano, one a month. The directors attend in person, talk with the audience and meet students from local schools. Gian Luca Pisacane is the artistic director.

At the end of the series, the Premio Prima Corrente is awarded, chosen by the audience through their votes.
