Getting to Tremezzina

By car from Milan or Como, take the A9 to the Lago di Como exit and follow the SS340 Regina along the west shore; from Lugano, drive to Menaggio and then south on the SS340. Tremezzina has no railway: take the train to Como San Giovanni or Como Lago and then the boat or ASF bus C110 (Como–Argegno–Menaggio–Colico), which stops at Tremezzo–Villa Carlotta and in Lenno, or the train to Varenna-Esino-Perledo and the boat across.

Ferry: Boats and hydrofoils call at Tremezzo and Lenno, and Campo and Isola Comacina have piers too; Villa Carlotta puts the Tremezzo–Villa Carlotta stop about 400 metres from its entrance. Hydrofoils reach Tremezzo from Como in about 40 minutes, and Bellagio is a short crossing away. Navigazione Laghi lists the Villa Carlotta pier among those not easily accessible to wheelchair users.

Parking: Near Villa Carlotta there are paid blue and free white spaces along the road; in high season the villa recommends the Villa Mainona multi-storey car park in Via Peduzzi. For Villa del Balbianello, use the paid Parcheggio Mercato in Via Comoedia (formerly Via degli Artigiani) in Lenno, or the spaces in Via Diaz and Via Silvio Pellico; traffic and parking are difficult at weekends and in summer.

About Tremezzina

Tremezzina is the comune formed on 25 May 2014 from four villages on the west shore of the lake's Como arm: Tremezzo, Lenno, Mezzegra and Ossuccio. This stretch of shore became known for aristocratic holidays from the 18th century, and its villas and gardens are still the reason most people come.
