Getting to Colico

By car from Milan and Lecco, follow the SS36 along the eastern shore to the Piona exit and then the SP72 into Colico; from Lugano and the western shore, the SS340 leads to Colico. Colico station has hourly RE8 RegioExpress trains Milano Centrale–Lecco–Sondrio–Tirano, R13 regional trains Lecco–Colico–Sondrio and the R11 line to Chiavenna. From Como San Giovanni station, ASF Autolinee bus C110 runs along the western shore to Colico station. Navigazione Laghi boats on the Como–Colico line take about 35 minutes from Varenna on fast boats (supplement) and about 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 from Como.

Ferry: End of the Como–Colico line; the Piona pier, near the abbey, is also in Colico. In the winter timetable (2 November 2026 – 14 March 2027) only a few boats a day call at Colico and none at Piona.

Parking: Piona Abbey has a large free car park; for Piona beach there is free parking in Via Logasc, 300 metres away, and for La Breva beach mostly paid parking between Via Montecchio Nord and Viale Padania.

About Colico

Colico is the last town on the eastern shore, at the top of Lake Como where the Valtellina and the Valchiavenna open out, below Monte Legnone (2,609 m), the highest mountain in the province of Lecco.
