About the event
The novel opens with the words "Quel ramo del lago di Como…", and this walk starts from there. With a tourist guide, you walk along the lakeshore and through streets that recall the pages of Alessandro Manzoni's I Promessi Sposi. Lecco is the town of Renzo and Lucia, and it has kept its Manzonian character even as it grew into a city.
The stops are:
- Villa Manzoni (exterior only): the starting point, home of the Manzoni family and the place where the author was formed. - Pescarenico district: the only Lecco neighbourhood named directly in the novel. - Piazza Padre Cristoforo: a visit to the church of Fra' Cristoforo (entry subject to religious services). - Piazza Era: a stop to recall the famous "Addio, monti sorgenti" on the left bank of the Adda. - Via dell'Isola: a walk along the river. - Ponte Visconteo: its historical and literary importance. - Piazza Manzoni: the end of the route, with the monument to Alessandro Manzoni.
