About the event
On 24 and 25 October 2026 Varenna hosts two days of ceremonies, under the patronage of the Municipality and the 5th Alpini Regiment. They mark two linked anniversaries: 105 years since the founding of the Varenna Alpini Group, and 100 years since the remains of Captain Corrado Venini, Gold Medal for Military Valour, were moved from Velo d'Astico to his beloved home town. This year is also the 110th anniversary of his death.
The municipal administration and the local Penne Nere, together with the whole community, want to honour Venini in the presence of the commanders and delegations of the units in which he served. The occasion is meant in particular to strengthen the bond with the 5th Alpini Regiment, the regiment to which he gave his life.
The source text announces honorary citizenship for the 5th Alpini Regiment. The detailed programme is not included in the text.
